Attorney Profile
In 1985, I began my legal career as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of New York. While there, I learned the nuts and bolts of criminal defense work by going to court every day, often appearing on as many as five to ten different cases. It was difficult work, but it provided the building blocks necessary to be a successful trial attorney. I learned early how to deal with a hostile judge or a dishonest prosecutor. In 1991, I began my own practice. My first office was in the World Trade Center. I concentrated almost exclusively in criminal defense work for the first three years but soon began to expand into other areas of the law such as personal injury, commercial litigation and matrimonial law. I continued to handle serious criminal matters as well, including federal cases. After moving from WTC in 1996, I began doing more and more civil cases. However, I also increased my volume of trial work and actually tried twelve cases to verdict in one year, an extraordinary number of trials. To date, I would estimate that I have tried approximately 100 cases, more than most lawyers complete in a lifetime. Today, I continue to handle serious state and federal criminal matters, including homicides, federal drug conspiracies, white-collar offences and drunk driving matters. In fact, I have such vast experience in criminal law, that there is no case that I cannot effectively and successfully handle. In addition, I have established a civil practice that includes personal injury, commercial and matrimonial matters with an excellent record of successful trials and settlements. I believe that the skills I honed as a criminal trial lawyer make me a more effective advocate than any civil lawyer. I graduated from The New England School of Law located in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1985. While there I was consistently a Deans List student and was particularly interested in criminal and constitutional law. I attended college at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts and graduated in 1982. I was a political science major with concentrations in economics and philosophy. I was the government department student union president. I passed both the New York State Massachusetts bar exams in 1985. I am admitted to practice law in both states as well as the federal District Courts for the Eastern, Southern and Northern Districts of New York and the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. I am a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, The New York County Lawyers Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New Yorks Legal Referral Service. I have appeared as a guest commentator on television news in New York. ----- Education Internships in the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare, Massachusetts Boards of Registration in Nursing, Psychology and Dentistry, Office of the District Attorney, Suffolk County, Boston, Massachusetts. -Senior trial attorney Private Practice, 1991 to Present Member
